I’m Chris Verstandig - a filmmaker/videographer, creative storyteller, and former collegiate athlete. I first discovered my passion and love for filmmaking while documenting my Cross Country and Track and Field team during the Covid-19 pandemic. Having no previous knowledge of documentary or film as a whole, I initially had to teach myself a lot of the skills - from operating a camera, to sound, and all that comes with post-production editing. That hands-on, self-driven learning process became the foundation of my creative journey.
Motivated to grow both technically and artistically, I pursued and recently completed an Master of Fine Arts in Experimental and Documentary Arts at Duke University. Through this program, I’ve been able to push the boundaries of traditional storytelling and dive deeper into narrative form, editing techniques, and immersive visual language. My projects - including The Mile Mark, an experimental short exploring the mental challenges of competitive running, and The Work Behind the Wonder, a documentary on labor and craftsmanship - reflect both my personal background and my evolving artistic voice.
